MIRIAM WILLIAMS WEAVER

Miriam Weaver, age 88, of Spring Hill, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas, died January 28, 2008 at Royal Terrace Nursing Home in Olathe.

Miriam's birth date was February 21, 1919. She was born and raised in Osawatomie. Her parents were John and Hildegard (Lundgren) Williams. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1937. She then attended University of Kansas in Lawrence and later Ursuline Academy in Paola, obtaining an Associate's degree.

She was united in marriage to John Amos Weaver on June 26, 1938 at Olathe, Kansas. In 1940, her husband enlisted in the United States Army and she came to Osawatomie to live with her parents. She worked in Kansas City, Missouri as a comp operator and auditor and statistical accountant. Later she lived for short periods with her husband in Alabama and North Carolina prior to his leaving for the European Theatre in 1943. While Amos was serving his country in World War II, their son was born in May of 1944. Both of Miriam's parents passed away in the winter of 1945.

Miriam and Amos lived in their home at 1134 Main Street in Osawatomie for 48 years. Miriam's maternal grandfather, a master craftsman, had built that house.

Miriam started working at the Osawatomie State Hospital in 1958. In August of 1968, she accepted a position with Holiday Manor in Osawatomie, serving as administrator until her retirement in the early '80s.

During her tenure at Holiday Manor, she served in a capacity under the governor of the State of Kansas in setting up a comprehensive program of aging care in nursing home facilities in regards to licensing, evaluation and certification.

She was also instrumental in locating doctors and businesses for the city of Osawatomie.

She enjoyed ceramics, other crafts, and reading (especially novels). Miriam and Amos were well known for their Hobby Shop. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Buenos Libros Book Club, and the Church of Christ for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died February 11, 1994, and a sister Margaret Ann who died at the age of two.

She is survived by her son John and his wife Charlotte (Breedlove) Weaver of Spring Hill; four grandchildren Brian, Scott, Jeff, and Shay Weaver; two great grandchildren Spencer and Morgan; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. She will lie in state after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Elmdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Weaver, Scott Weaver, Jeff Weaver, Shay Weaver, Spencer Weaver, and Mike Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Weaver and Brad Weaver. Memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
