Evelyn Weaver Diehm, 89, of Olathe, Kansas, died February 24, 2009 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.

Evelyn was born on May 2, 1919 in Osawatomie, Kansas as the fourth of seven children born to Alexander Louis David Weaver and Mamie Mae Landers Weaver.

Most of her life was spent in Osawatomie where she attended the Osawatomie schools, graduating with the Class of 1937. After graduation, she worked as a waitress in Osawatomie and Denver, Colorado.

She and Harold Elmo Diehm were married on December 17, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas and made their home in Osawatomie. They were the parents of one son, Randall Gene. Her husband preceded her in death on May 10, 1989 after almost 50 years of marriage.

Evelyn was a school room mother and Cub Scout Den mother for several years. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Osawatomie and was an active member of the MERA class, a choir member and worked on several committees.

Her joy was being a housewife and Mother at home. She enjoyed working in the garden, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, sewing and cooking.

Evelyn moved to Olathe in 1992 where she lived in a duplex for several years. She moved in with her son and daughter-in-law in 1998 and stayed with them the remainder of her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harold, brother Alvin, and five sisters, Katherine, Louise, Helen, Mary and Marjorie.

She is survived by her son, Randy and wife Carole of Olathe, Kansas. Also surviving are her grandson, Brent and granddaughter Mindy and one great granddaughter, Anna, and two great grandsons, Isaac and Jacob.

The family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Osawatomie Cemetery where the family will receive friends immediately following the service.
