SAMUEL REED, JR.

Samuel Reed, Jr. was born June 4, 1919, in Osawtomie, Kans. He was the son of Carrie and Samuel Reed.

Samuel attended elementary school and high school in Osawatomie and graduated with the class of 1937. He also attended the Kansas Technical School in Topeka, Kans., and majored in tailoring.

At an early age he was converted and Baptized in Ebenezer Baptist church under the pastorate of Rev. James H. Scott.

On April 18, 1942, Samuel volunteered for military service and served in the European theater. He received his honorable discharge in 1946.

Later he went to live in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was employed on construction work. He had been in failing health since November, 1956. In February, 1951, he with his wife, returned to Lawrnece, Kans. to live.

Samel entered Winter General Hospital June 4, 1957, and was discharged June 21, and re-entered July 28. He departed this life on Sunday evening, October 6, 1957, at the age of 38 years, 4 months and 2 days. He was a good companion to his wife in the home and a very cooperative patient in the hospital. All during his illness he kept the faith and testified of his faith in Jesus Christ.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Marcella Reed; his father, Samuel Reed Sr.; three sisters and one brother, Robert Reed; also Devla Johnson, only surviving aunt; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He will be missed.

Funeral services were held in the Birchard Funeral Home Friday, October 11, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Floyd Guliford and Rev. J. T. Olds, officiating. Mrs. Floyd Guliford accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Dollar, sang, "He Will Remember Me" and "Keep Me Every Day".

The pallbearers were Harold Lewis and Elmer Logan of Lawrence; Arthur Bailey, Charles T. Smith, Willis Smith and Herbert Robinson. Intement was in the Elmdale cemetery with military services at the graveside.
