Maxine B. Fairchild, 87, Osawatomie, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in Louisburg Care Center.

The oldest of the three children of William Henry and Susie Elizabeth Moore Kester, she was born March 22, 1918, in Boicourt, Kan. The family moved to Osawatomie in 1921 where she grew up and was a 1937 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

On Sept. 20, 1937, she and Wayne Wadsworth Fairchild were married in Paola. They made their home in Osawatomie and became parents of two sons. Her husband preceded her in death on March 16, 1987, just a few months short of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Fairchild was a member of the First Christian Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Ladies Elks, Royal Neighbors, Railroad Ladies Auxiliary, the Osawatomie Community Senior Service Center and the Osawatomie History Museum, all in Osawatomie.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Henry Glenn Kester.

Survivors include her two sons, Lowell Fairchild of Liberty, Mo., and William Fairchild of Singapore; a brother, Bennie Kester of Columbus, Mont.; four granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in the church. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Phil Lawler, Greg Arterburn, Tyler Mauney, Joseph Daugherty and Virden Daugherty. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.
