GEORGE HULGAN

FEBRUARY 9, 1920 - APRIL 22, 2012

George Roy Hulgan, 92, of Gardner, passed away April 22, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 27, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, KS. 10:00 am visitation before the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

George was born February 9, 1920 in Osawatomie to Roy Roscoe and Bertha May (Wilson) Hulgan. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1937. While in school he was a paper carrier for the KC Star and Times. George was an auto mechanic after high school.

George left Osawatomie and joined the Army Air Force. After his military service he attended Illinois State Normal University.

He married Helen May Hughes in Springfield, IL on Aug. 24, 1946. They stayed in Illinois where he worked as a supervisor for 32 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL. Retiring in 1980 they moved to Arkansas and later to Gardner in 2003 to be near family.

George was a member of the Gardner American Legion and enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. He liked to "jingle" in his shop and work his cows. George loved his time with family and their activities. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Thelma. George is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; children: Helen Peterson, Olathe, KS, William and wife Fran Hulgan, Bend, TX, Michael and wife Jeri Hulgan, Yellville, AR, Joe and wife Elizabeth Hulgan, Sarasota, FL, and Merri Hulgan, Interlochen, MI; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
