CHARLES HAROLD HANES

Charles Harold Hanes, 82, Ottawa, a former Osawatomie resident died December 25, 2002 in Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.

He was born January 15, 1920, in Waverly, KS, the son of Charley L. and Lottie E. Dixon Hanes. He grew up in Osawatomie, attended Osawatomie High School and graduated with the Class of 1937.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He and Rose Genevie Staneart were married March 31, 1940 in Iola.

Mr. Hanes worked at the Willis Nursery Co. in Ottawa. He then worked as a carpenter for Oral Staneart Construction Co. and then as a carpenter foreman for many years. He was a salesman for Ottawa Lumber Co. for more than 20 years before retiring in 1985.

Preceding him in death were seven brothers, William Lee, Maurice, Johnny, Lyle, Vernon and Charles; a sister, Stella McDonald; and a great-granddaughter.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Hanes of the home; a daughter, Pat Burns of Ottawa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were in Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.

Memorials were to the Hanes Family Scholarship Fund.
