JANICE "GARTER" GARTRELL

Janice “Garter” Gartrell age 88 of Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas died Tuesday March 24, 2009.

She was born May 26, 1920 at Mission Hills, Kansas the daughter of Milton and Edna Chitwood Gartrell. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1937. She was a MacVicar Scholar at Washburn and graduated from the University of Kansas. Janice was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Lambda Theta.

She was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation as an engineering analyst and retired after thirty-nine years in Schaumburg, Illinois.

She enjoyed gardening, music, theater and travelling. She was a member of St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, UMKC Women’s Committee of Conservatory Music, Kansas City Musical Club, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Friends of the Arts at the Chicago Art Institute and Nelson Adkins Museum.

Memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday April 4, 2009 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall, Mission, Kansas. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday April 4 at the Mt Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the church. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, LaCygne, Kansas.
