Fred Ernest Whitney, age 88, born June 25, 1918 in rural Miami County, Kansas, died on February 12, 2007 in Lakewood, Colorado. He was the son of the late Fred and Ethel Whitney of Miami County, Kansas. He grew up north of Osawatomie and is a 1936 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He worked for Met Life Insurance Company and retired from Colgate-Palmolive Company. He has resided in Lakewood, Colorado since 1980. He is survived by daughters Sandra (Phillip) Haynes of Chapman, Kansas and Susan Yazel of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by three grandchildren Gail Martin of Winston Salem, N.C., Michael Martin of McKinney, Texas and Susan Smith of McKinney, Texas; and two great grandchildren Sara and Samantha Martin of Havelock, N.C. He is a member of Plum Creek Methodist Church of Miami County, Kansas.

Graveside services, Osawatomie Cemetery, 10 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are to the Plum Creek Methodist Church.
