SHERMAN PIGGOTT

CLASS OF 1936

APRIL 24, 1918 - MARCH 31, 1982

Sherman L. Piggott, 63, of Osawatomie, died Wednesday, March 3l, 1982 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

He was born April 24, 1918, at Osawatomie, the son of Sherman Otis and Hazel Phares Piggott. He grew up in Osawatomie and attended the schools there, graduating with the class of 1936. He then attended college at Ottawa and the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

July 14, 1941 he entered the United States Army and served until Sept 29, 1945. Much of his time in the Army was spent in Alaska where he worked on the railroad.

After his return home he was united in marriage to Flora Belle Mullins December 15, 1945 at Ottawa.

Mr. Piggott was a conductor and had almost 40 years of service with the Missouri Pacific Railroad both in freight and passenger service when he retired in 1978. He worked many years out of Council Grove.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie, the United Transportation Union and the VFW Hanlin-Kelly Post No. 2258.

Mr. Piggott enjoyed working on his farm and fishing.

His parents and a sister preceded him death.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Flora Belle Piggott of the home; his daughter, Mrs. Anna Lea Bowersox of Lincoln, Neb.; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Karl, and a brother, Bill Piggott of Overland Park.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Alan McDaniel officiating. John E. Punshon, John Warren, Eldon Landers, 'Bud' Lhuiller, Mike Guilfoyle and Loren Higgenbotham served as pallbearers.

Memorials were established to the Mid-American Heart Institute of St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City.
