Eugene Leroy Maxwell of Houston, Texas passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. He was born to parents Jesse and Fred Maxwell on Oct. 29, 1919 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He married Treva Canary on May 1, 1943, and they enjoyed 62 years together.
Gene was a very devoted husband and father. He loved playing tennis, traveling and being with his family. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in geological engineering, but deferred his future career in geology to serve as a captain in the U.S. Coastal and Geodetic Survey division of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After the war, Gene began his career as a geologist for the Lion Oil Company which later became the geology division of Monsanto Chemical Company. Gene became a well-respected expert in his field and was frequently called upon to do geological consulting work in Egypt, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well as in the United States.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his two siblings and his wife.
He is survived by his three children Rebecca Lynn and husband Bob, Cathy Fairchild and husband Bruce and Jim Maxwell. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Lindsay Fairchild, Michael Atwood and wife Lucia, Chad Atwood and wife Mary-Elizabeth and eight great-grandchildren.
A small family service is planned to celebrate his life. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, the Waxahachie SPCA or a charity of choice.
The family truly appreciates all the love and support they have received during this time of grief.
