CLASS OF 1936 MAY 11, 1919 - MAY 29, 1993 Final rites for Bernadine Lenora Cockran, 318 Locust St., Mound City, were held Tuesday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mrs. Cockran, 76, died Saturday, May 29, 1993, in her home after an extended illness. The daughter of James and Nona Kizer Cavinee, she was born May 11, 1919, in Beagle. She attended school in Beagle, Parker, and Osawatomie, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1936. After her graduation , she worked for three years at Osawatomie State Hospital. She then moved to Kansas City, MO, and worked for Hallmark Cards for a number of years. She and Lloyd Earl Cockran were married September 4, 1942, in Kansas City, KS, where they resided until moving to Beagle in 1947. They moved to Parker in the mid 1950s where they lived until moving to Mound City in the fall of 1992. The Cockrans were parents of two daughters. Mrs. Cockran was employed by the United States Postal Service in the Parker post office from 1971 until retiring in 1981. She had served as postmaster for the last three years of her service. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Parker. Among those preceding her in death was a brother, Charles Cavinee. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd, of the home; two daughters, Colleen K. Suddock and Debbie Nickelson, Mound City; a sister, Dorothy Marshall, Paola; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. The Rev. Ted Hunter conducted the services. Nancy Snyder sang, accompanied by Lois Bisig, organist. Pallbearers were Frank Ingram, Robert Walker, Roy Stroup, Glenn Merrill, Marvin J. Lhuillier and Elwood Conklin. Burial was in Beagle Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name to Southview Hospice. |
