WILLIAM J. WHITE, JR.

CLASS OF 1935

MAY 10, 1917 - OCTOBER 22, 1988

The following is information that was supplied by Bill for the 50th reunion held in 1985:

"After graduation, I attended the University of Kansas where I played football and worked for my sponsor, the Granada Theater in Lawrence, KS. Prior to going into the Army, I completed the courses offered at the Osawatomie State Hospital, and from the results of this training, received basic medical training in the Army at Camp Grant, IL. I was commissioned following training in the Medical Field Service in Pennsylvania. After being transferred to various states, I received orders to report to the Army Transport Command in Newport News, VA. There, I was assigned to the "Alfred Moore", an Army Troop Transport, which assignment lasted for one and one-half years. (There are many amusing stories about this tour of duty). All of this duty was confined to the Atlantic and Mediterranean territories, Gibraltar, Casablanca, Tangiers, North Africa, Italy and France. Upon completion of sea duty, I was assigned as Registrar at Stark General Hospital, where we processed wounded service men returning to the States. These wounded were sent from our Charleston, S.C. base, to General Hospitals located near their homes. After Stark General Hospital was closed, I was reassigned to a convalescent Hospital at Daytona, FL, as the Administrative Officer; and then to Camp Swift Station Hospital in Bastrop, TX, which is 30 miles from Austin where I have resided since 1949. I continued my affiliation with the Army Reserve and Texas National Guard after settling in Austin, TX. I am now a Licensed Real Estate Dealer, General Insurance Broker and a licensed Security Dealer. I became involved in politics as a lobbyist for various associations, and spent 15 years in the textbook publishing business. Besides being engaged in the real estate business, I also operate a travel agency which has afforded many interesting trips throughout the world, and I plan to see more before retirement. I was married to Anne Boyett in 1948, and had one child, Martha Ann, who is now in her second year of Law. I look forward to seeing everyone in May '85."
