NOEL NYMAN

CLASS OF 1935

JUNE 27, 1917 - FEBRUARY 26, 1993

The following is information that was supplied by Noel for the 50th reunion held in 1985:

"I graduated from KY, Pharmacy degree, in 1940. Married Ala Dell Meinke on June 29, 1941. Have two children: Eric Nyman, born Feb. 14, 1943, and Barbara Nyman Nash, born March 31, 1947. career as follows: Venning Drug, Concordia, KS, 1940 thru 1945. Meek Drub, Osawatomie, 1945 thru 1949. Watson Drug, Bonner Springs, KS, 1949 thru 1983. I retired in October 1983. Won "Bowl of Hygeia" Award in 1980. This award is presented to one pharmacist per year, per state. Activities: City Council and Mayor of Bonner Springs; BSA merit badge counselor; Methodist Church, Chairman of Finance Committee, Pastor and Parish Relations Committee. Former member of Kiwanis and Optimist Clubs; Assistant Chief of Bonner Volunteer Ambulance Corps."

 

Obituary:

BONNER SPRINGS - - - Final Rites for Noel Nyman, Bonner Springs, were held Tuesday in the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church.

Mr. Nyman, a former Osawatomie resident, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1993, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center at the age of 75.

He was a pharmacist for Waggoner's Pharmacy (formerly Watson Brothers Pharmacy) in Bonner Springs for 43 years. He was a member of the American and Kansas pharmaceutical associations.

Mr. Nyman was a Bonner Springs mayor and councilman in the late 1960s and the early 1970s.

He was a 1940 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and a member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association.

He was born in Beloit and lived in Osawatomie and Concordia before moving to Bonner Springs in 1949. He was a 1935 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

His memberships included the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and Mended Hearts Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Ala Dell Nyman, of the home; a son, Eric Nyman, Liberty, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara Nash, Lawrence; a brother, Dr. Edwin E. Nyman, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Nona Ryan, Crestline, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Burial was in Lenape Cemetery west of Bonner Springs.

Memorials have been established in his name to the church and the Bonner Springs Ambulance Service.
