CLASS OF 1935 JANUARY 12, 1918 - MARCH 30, 2008 The following is information that was supplied by Donald for the 50th reunion held in 1985: "After leaving Osawatomie, I went to Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia where I got a degree in education. I then taught at Centralia, KS High School from 1939-1942. In 1942, I entered the Army and married Margaret Ansdell. I was discharged from the Army in 1946 and taught at Carthage, MO High School from 1946-1948. In 1948, I went back to school and earned a PHD from the University of Kansas in August of 1951. Since 1951, I have been a professor at Eastern Illinois University. From 1962 until 1984, I was chairman of the Dept. of Educational Psychology & Guidance and durint eh 1980-1981 school year, I was the Dean of the School of Education." Dr. Donald L. Moler, 90, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Brewster Place. Don was born on January 12, 1918 in Wilsey, KS, the son of R.L. and Bess Moler. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1935, and Kansas State Teachers College, now Emporia State University, with a B.S. in 1939. He received his M.S. in 1949 and his Ph.D. in 1951 from the University of Kansas. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army during WWII. Don married Margaret Ansdell on Nov. 6, 1942, in Jamestown, KS. They spent most of their married life in Charleston, IL from 1951-2006. Margaret preceded him in death on July 25, 2007. He was a University Professor and in 1961 he became the Chairman of the Educational Psychology and Guidance Department at Eastern Illinois University where he served until his retirement in the 1980s. In 1974, Don received the C.A. Michelman Award for outstanding contributions to guidance in Illinois from the Illinois Guidance and Personnel Association. Dr. Moler is survived by his son, Donald L. Moler, Jr., and wife, Judy of Topeka; three grandsons, Seth, Eric, Marc and wife, Julie. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thurs., April 3rd at Countryside United Methodist Church Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Donald L. Moler Memorial Fund, i/c Eastern Illinois University, 600 Lincoln Avenue, Charleston, IL 61920.
