CLASS OF 1935 OCTOBER 27, 1916 - MAY 31, 1998 The following is information that was supplied by Roy for the 50th reunion held in 1985: "Retired priest of the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du lac (Wi) Spiritual Director of the North American Province of the Society of the Holy Cross. Served with the 104th Infantry Division (the Timberwolves) during WW II. BA University of Denver, M. Div. Nashotah House Seminary (Wi) studied at Fordhan U. and St. Augustine College. Canterbury, Kent, England. Thirty years in small town and rural work on a national, provincial and diocesan level, excepting three years in New York city to work in the parish of St. John's-in-the-village for a special project."
OLATHE - - -A memorial service for the Rev. Roy Alan McDaniel, Osawatomie, was held Monday in St. Aidan's Episcopal Church. Mr. McDaniel, 81, died Sunday, May 31, 1998 in the Olathe Medical Center. The son of Roy Alva and Mary Conlin McDaniel, he was born October 27, 1916 in E. Vaughn, N.M. He moved with his parents to Osawatomie in 1922. He was a 1935 graduate of Osawatomie High School and a 1938 graduate of the Kansas State Training School for Nurses in Osawatomie. He worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital and later for state hospitals in Colorado. While in Colorado he attended Pueblo Junior College. During World War II, he took language training at Fordham University and served as a medic in 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves). He served in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. After the war, he completed studies for a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Denver. In 1950 he graduated from Nashotah House Seminary with a master of divinity degree. After being ordained in St. John's Episcopal Church of Sparta, Wis., Mr. McDaniel served St. John's Parish in New York City; several parishes in Wisconsin; and was a member of the executive board of Fon du Lac Diocese. After retiring in 1977 he returned to Osawatomie to make his home. He was an ardent supporter of the fine and performing arts and produced several plays as part of his work with parish youth. Among those preceding him in death were his parents and a sister who died in infancy. There are no immediate survivors. Mr. McDaniel was cremated. Memorials have been established in his name to the Roy A. and Mary A. McDaniel Scholarship Trust Fund and the Mission Fund of the Episcopal Diocese of Fon du Lac. |
