Married Carolee Ferguson of Ottawa,KS June, 1943, in El Monte CA. Have two children, Carolyn and Alan, and four grandchildren. Owned and operated drive-in restaurants in Kansas and Arizona. Was Kansas City Star distributor for Osawatomie, KS. Retired now and spend time in Sun City, AZ and Kansas."
Services for Harry Leland Goetz, Sun City, Ariz., were held Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mr. Goetz, a former resident of Lane, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 in Sun Health Care Center in Sun City, Ariz.. he was 81. The son of Frank and Bessie Hiles Goetz, he was born Dec. 12, 1916 in Osawatomie. He grew up and attended school in Indianapolis schoolhouse and was a 1935 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He attended North American Aircraft School in California and Pima County College, Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Goetz served in the U.S. Army from August 1942 until Dec. 15, 1945 during World War II. He was overseas in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. He and Carolee Ferguson married June 27, 1943 in El Monte, Calif. They adopted two children. Mr. Goetz worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 10 years, owned and operated the Dari King in Osawatomie, owned and operated an A and W Root Beer Drive-In in Tucson, and was a Kansas City Star Distributor Osawatomie. In 1978 he moved to Sun City. He was a member of the Willowbrook Methodist Church, the Sun City Travel Trailer Club, the Kansas City Star Club, the American Legion and was a charter member of the Ruritan Pottawatomie Club of Lane. Among those who preceded him in death were two brothers, Clyde Goetz and Keith Goetz. Survivors include his wife Carolee, of the home; a son, Harry Alan Goetz, Hutchinson; a daughter, Carolyn Ann Giles, Fort Worth, Texas; and eight grandchildren. The Rev. Don Mueller officiated. Pallbearers were Richard Speck, Alvin Hall, Robert Kitchen, Burle Barnett and Jaysen Goetz. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. A memorial has been established in his name to the United Methodist Church of Lane. |
