WAYNE G. FIXLEY

CLASS OF 1935

FEBRUARY 2, 1918 - NOVEMBER 4, 1995

The following is information that was supplied by Wayne and Marjorie for the 50th reunion held in 1985:

"Since graduation, our lives have had a lot of good times and a few bad ones. Wayne went on to Kansas University and graduated with a B.A. in business on June 10, 1940. Marjorie stayed at home. We were married January 4, 1941, and made our first home in St. Joseph MO where Wayne was employed with a CPA firm. Wayne enlisted in the Army in January, 1942, and was discharged in March, 1943. During this time, Marjorie worked at a local drug store. After discharge, we settled in Kansas City MO for a few years. We have two sons, Mike and Mark. Mike, age 40, lived in Olathe, KS and is a plant superintendent for Smith & Loveless, Inc. He has a son, 20, and a daughter, 17. Mark age, 39, lives in Oklahoma City, OK and is a medical doctor, specializing in diseases of lungs and chests. He has a daughter, 8, and a son, 2. After spending a few years in Kansas City, MO. we moved back to Osawatomie in February, 1950. I opened my own accounting business there and drifted into insurance and real estate business. In April, 1978, I sold my insurance agency and in August, 1980, retired from the real estate business. On December 4, 1980, we sold our home in Osawatomie moved to our lake home on Grand Lake at Grove, OK. We are still at home in Grove and welcome our friends to visit us when you are in the area."

 

Obituary:

Graveside services for a longtime Osawatomie businessman, Wayne G. Fixley, Grove, Okla., were held Tuesday afternoon in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mr. Fixley, 77, died unexpectedly of a heart condition Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, in St. John's Regional Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

Services for Mr. Fixley were held Tuesday morning in the Grace Presbyterian Church of Grove.

Mr. Fixley owned and operated the Wayne G. Fixley Agency in Osawatomie for more than 30 years from about 1952 until 1982. He was an accountant and insurance and real estate broker.

The son of George and Alma Crowl Fixley, he was born Feb. 2, 1918 in Osawatomie where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1935 he earned a degree in business administration from the University of Kansas in 1940. He worked in St. Joseph, Mo. for a short time before returning to Osawatomie.

He and Marjorie Lhuillier were married Jan. 4, 1941 in Olathe. They became the parents of two sons. They moved to Grove from Osawatomie to make their home in 1985.

His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 921 of Osawatomie; American Legion Post 153 of Olathe; and Moose Lodge of Grove. Mr. Fixley served with the U. S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of the home; two sons, Michael Fixley, St. Joseph, Mo. and Mark Fixley, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Leroy Ruede officiated. Jo Ellen Oestreich was the soloist. Pallbearers were Sid Muse, Ray Nixon, Leo Hickman, Everett Crockett, Howard Fieker and Dean Murrow. Arrangements were under the direction of Sherman-Schrag Funeral Home, Grove.

A memorial has been established in his name to the church.
