FEBRUARY 28, 1918 - JANUARY 7, 2009

The following is information that was supplied by Eva for the 50th reunion held in 1985:

"After graduating, I worked for Coker's Store, then went to Topeka where I worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield. I retired in 1970 and my husband, Jim, retired in 1977. We then bought a motor home and traveled all over the Unived States. We spend lots of winters in the South. This year, we are spending 3 months in Ft. Myers, FL."

 

Obituary:

Eva Lorene Schafer, 90, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Brewster Health Center in Topeka.

Born Feb. 28, 1918, in Osawatomie, she was the daughter of Anna and Elmer Fields. She graduated in 1935 from Osawatomie High School.

She worked at Cokers Store in Osawatomie and later for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in Topeka.

On April 2, 1966, she and James R. Schafer were married in Topeka. He preceded her in death Sept. 21, 2000.

Mrs. Schafer was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church west of Osawatomie.

Others preceding her in death included a sister, Thelma Oliver, and a stepdaughter, Julia Mercer.

Survivors include a nephew, Philip Oliver of Topeka; a niece, Linda Sneegas of Lawrence; a step-granddaughter; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka, followed by burial in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
