CLASS OF 1935 JULY 3, 1917 - JULY 16, 1989 The following is information that was supplied by Elizabeth for the 50th reunion held in 1985: "I am married to Blaine M. Smith. I have two sons, Keith Maurice Goetz and Charles Jay Goetz; a set of twin girls, Cheryl Dianne Havens Reeve and Gerry Sue Havens Mundell. I raised Jr. (Sonny) Douglas and Linda Kay Havens Tallackson. I have 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I still live in the old home place by the park."
Services for Bozorah Elizabeth Smith, 926 Main St., Osawatomie, were held Wednesday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith, 72, died Sunday, July 16, 1989, in the Olathe Medical Center. The daughter of Dr. Jay R. Douglas II and Jessie Freeman Douglas, she was born July 3, 1917, in Kansas City Mo. The family moved to Osawatomie when she was about four years old. She grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1935 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She and Keith Maurice Goetz were married Dec. 29, 1934, and they made their home on a farm near Osawatomie. They became the parents of two sons. Mr. Goetz died July 8, 1945. Her second marriage was to Earl Russell Havens in Mound City. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of twin daughters. Mr. Havens died Feb. 23, 1958. On May 10, 1959 she and Blaine Mobley Smith were married in Miami Okla. They made their home at 926 Main St., Osawatomie. Mrs. Smith worked for Mode O'Day in Osawatomie from 1952 until 1962. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Episcopal Church. In addition to her husbands, among those perceding her in death were a brother, Ray Franklin Douglas, and one grandson, Billie Joe Reeve II. Survivors include her husband, Blaine, of the home; two sons, Keith Maurice Goetz II, Palm Springs, Calif., and Charles Jay Goetz, Seal Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Cheryl Dianne Reeve, Rantoul, and Gerry Sue Mundell, Paola; a brother, Jay R. Douglas III, N. Little Rock, Ark; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. Roy A. F. McDaniel conducted the services. Pallbearers were Robert Cresse, Gene Ward, Eldon McDowell, W. O. Appenfeller, M.D., Richard Grant, and Richard Tyrell. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. |
