CLASS OF 1935 OCTOBER 6, 1917 - AUGUST 26, 2008 The following is information that was supplied by Leslie for the 50th reunion held in 1985: "After graduating in 1935, I went to K.U. for 3 years. I entered the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in September, 1939, and graduated in 1943. I spent 3 years as a dentist in the Navy and Marines. I was with the 1st Marine Division on the invasion of Okinawa, April 1, 1945. Then, I spent three months with the Marines in China before being discharged in 1946. I was married December 7, 1946, and now have three children and five grandchildren. I am still practicing dentistry in Glendale, CA." Obituary: Leslie Smyer Clark passed away peacefully at his home in Glendale, California on August 26, 2008. Leslie was born in Harrison, Arkansas on October 6, 1917. Later he lived in Osawatomie, Kansas where he attended school graduating with the class of 1935. After he graduated from Kansas University (Go Jayhawks!) he moved to California and completed Dental school at USC (Fight On!) Les joined the Navy and served with the 1st Marine Division and was part of the Easter Sunday invasion of Okinawa. He married Edith on December 7, 1946 and began his 40 year dental practice in Glendale. He was active in Kiwanis and every fall enjoyed watching football and participating in the Quarterback Club. He enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. He was a good friend to all who knew him and loved his ever present wit and kindness. He will be missed by his loving family, wife, Edith, children Marcia, Nancy and Jim and his grandchildren Bryce, Grace, Cory, Nate, and Cassidy. Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at the Montrose Church, 2409 Florencita Drive, (corner of Orangedale), Montrose, CA 91020. In lieu of flowers Les would greatly appreciate donations be made to the Montrose Church. |
