DOROTHY YOCUM CARSWELL

Fulton, Ill- Dorothy A. Carswell, 83, Clinton, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999 in Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility in Clinton. 

Born March 18, 1916 in Osawatomie, KS, she was the daughter of Pete E. and Ada McKenzie Yocum. She grew up in Osawatomie, attended local schools and was a 1934 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She and William R. Carswell were married May 27, 1943 in Fulton, Ill. He died Feb. 5, 1993. She was employed by General Electric in Morrison, Ill.; Carlon Co. in Clinton, IA; and most recently as a dietary aide for Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Mrs. Carswell was member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Fulton and a former member of the Fulton Country Club. She enjoyed bingo and bowling and was active in both the Fulton and Clinton bowling leagues. 

In addition to her husband, those preceding her in death were a sister, Eva Johnson, and five brothers, Berry Yocum, John Yocum, Raymond Yocum, William Yocum and Warren Yocum. Survivors include a son James R. Carswell of Fulton; a sister, Nina Alsop of Ellinwood, KS; two brothers, Leonard Yocum of St. Louis, MO and Donald Yocum of Sun City, AZ; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton, followed by burial in Fulton.
