MARGARET THOMPSON GRANT

CLASS OF 1934

DECEMBER 19, 1916 - JANUARY 28, 2000

Margaret Grant, 83, Osawatomie, died Jan. 28, 2000 in Miami County Medical Center, Paola, after a long illness suffering with cancer.

She was born Dec. 19, 1916 in San Antonio, Fla., the daughter of Almon Curtis and Marie Adeline Youngs Thompson. She was the oldest of their four children. She attended school in Osawatomie and was a 1934 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

She and Delmar Ralph Grant were married Dec. 31, 1934 in Paola. They made their home on a farm in the Beagle area and became the parents of one son. Being a farmer's wife and homemaker, she kept busy on their farm. She also worked as a nurse's aide at Holiday Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie from 1968 until 1977.

Mrs. Grant remained on the farm for 64 years before moving to Osawatomie in December 1998.

Among those preceding her in death were her husband, Delmar, who died Dec. 10, 1984; a sister, Marie McKinley; and one granddaughter, Tera Grant.

Survivors include her son, Richard Grant of Osawatomie; a brother, Charles Thompson of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Betty Patrick of Hartford, Ala.; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

Services were held in the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie, followed by burial in Beagle Cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Chisam, Joseph Weaver, Ernest L. Jones, Eldon Brown, Mike Sheehan and Thomas Speck. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Cavinee, Loren Edwards, Melvin Stockwell, George Henry Diehm and Bob Franklin. Arrangements were cared for by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie. Memorials were made to the church.
