SEPTEMBER 1, 1914 - JUNE 1, 2005

Harvey Cleveland Kester Sr., 90, Grandview, Mo., an Osawatomie native, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Foxwood Living Center in Raymore, Mo.

He was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Osawatomie, the youngest of two children of Harve Cleveland and Lillie Josephine Sullivan Kester. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1934.

In 1935, he went for two years to Los Angeles, Calif., where he became a maintenance electrician. He worked for Newberry Electric in the shipyards during World War II.

He married Margene Cole in Los Angeles on Sept. 2, 1938. They became the parents of three children. They were divorced in 1972.

He moved to Osawatomie in 1950 and worked in the railroad shops until they closed in 1957. He then worked for the Bendix Corp. for nine and one-half years. He moved in 1968 to Bellflower, Calif., and worked for McDonnell-Douglas until 1979, when he retired. He moved to Victor, Idaho, and lived there until 2002, when he moved to Grandview to live with his son.

A brother, Carl Kester of Osawatomie, was among those preceding him in death.

Surviving are his two sons, Cleve Kester of Spring Hill and Henry W. Kester of Grandview; a daughter, Colleen Ann Wells of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Saturday at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements were by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie.
