HARRY EDWIN FUNK

FEBRUARY 4, 1916 - NOVEMBER 21, 1988

Harry Edwin Funk Jr. 72, Osawatomie, died Monday, Nov. 21, 1988, at the Olathe Medical Center.

Ed, as he was known, was born Feb. 4, 1916, in Osawatomie, the son of Harry Edwin Sr. and Montrose Zella States Funk. He grew up in Osawatomie and attended the schools there. He graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1934.

After graduation he attended Emporia College. He was then employed by the City of Kansas City, Mo., and the Reynolds Tobacco Co.

Mr. Funk served in the United States Army during World War II. While in the service he was united in marriage to Mildren Ruth "Chick" Hagan Sept. 7, 1943 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. They returned to Osawatomie to make their home in 1945.

After his return to Osawatomie he worked at Dunton Furniture and the the Curtis Candy Co. He began his career as a postal carrier in the early 1950s. He retired in 1976.

Mr. Funk was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie. He was also a member of the Osage Valley Lodge 24 AF&AM, Abdallah Temple and was a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. He was a member of the American Legion Post 204 and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister and his wife, who died May 30, 1987.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Juanita Carter of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Lillian Roesch of Pierce City, Mo.; four nieces and four nephews.

The services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Church. The Rev. Mel Roblee and the Rev. Alan Smith officiated. The music was provided by Dean Diediker, accompanied on the organ by Ruth Smith. The selection was "The Lord's Prayer."

The burial was in the Elmdale Cemetery in Osawatomie under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie. The pallbearers were Ernest Jones, Bob Johnson, Fred Wicke, Merle Stone, Roy Carpenter and Edgar H. Mann Jr.

Memorials were given in his name to the church.
