GENEVIEVE IONE DICKEY SPECK

JANUARY 25, 1916 - FEBRUARY 10, 1995

Genevieve Ione Dickey Speck, a lifelong resident of Osawatomie, died Friday, February 10, 1995 in Heritage Manor. She was 79.

The daughter of Bruce and Ota Troxel Dickey, she was born January 25, 1916 in Osawatomie. She attended Osawatomie schools, graduating from High School in 1934. She attended business college in Kansas City for one year.

She and Thomas Louis Speck, Sr. were married June 5, 1941 in Fort Scott. They became the parents of three children.

In 1960, she went to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She was the switchboard supervisor when she retired in 1978. Prior to 1960, she had worked for J.C. Penney’s, Osawa Theater, Cox Motor Co, and was a relief operator for Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Mrs. Speck was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie.

Among those preceding her in death were her husband, who died in 1979, and a sister, Gladys Dickey Stine of Wichita.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas L. Speck, Jr., Lenexa, Richard L. Speck, Olathe; a daughter Ann Speck, Olathe; a brother Bruce L. Dickey, Overland Park; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Jim Dudley, Tim Robertson, Robert Cook, Gary Burgoon, John David Cole and Richard Coffelt. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.
