THELMA M. STANLEY ASTIN

AUGUST 31, 1914 - JULY 15, 2013

Thelma M. Astin (known as "Dutch" to her family), age 98, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born August 31, 1914, in Osawatomie, Kansas, a daughter of the late Albert Henry and Maude Kelley Stanley.

On July 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to James Powell Astin, who preceded her in death on November 8, 1995.

In 1933, Thelma graduated from Osawatomie High School with her two sisters, Grace and Eleanor and also her aunt Kathryn. As long as Thelma was able she loved attending the Osawatomie High School Alumni Banquet, and for the last few years always had the distinction of being the oldest graduate in attendance.

She was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie where she enjoyed attending bible study.

Thelma kept busy painting, doing ceramic work and enjoyed visiting church members in the nursing home.

She is survived by her brother, Leslie Stanley and wife Helen of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister, Charlotte Giager of Paola, Kansas, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 22nd, at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Rick White officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
