1932 Last rites for Edna A. Croan, Paola, were held Sunday in the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Croan, 79, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 10, 1994, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She had suffered a stroke the previous day. She was born April 18, 1914, in Osawatomie and was the daughter of Jess and Rose Coleman Van Horn. She grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1932 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She and Ralph Croan were married Jan. 18, 1935, in Osawatomie and made their home in the Paola community. They lived in Paola since 1951. Mrs. Croan worked as a waitress in Roberta’s Tea Room in Paola before retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paola. Among those preceding her in death was a grandchild. Survivors include her husband, Ralph, of the home; four sons, Robert L. Croan, Livonia, MI, Roger E. Croan, Paola, Donald W. Croan, Liberty, MO and Carl L Croan, Raytown, MO; a daughter Carol K. Johnston, Paola; a sister, Maxine Lee, Fort Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The Rev. Robert Brattstrom officiated. Music was provided by Marlene Riebe, organist, and Hazel Attbery, soloist. Pallbearers were Rex Croan, Jason Croan, Todd Croan, Philip Johnston, Pay McCoy and Gary Meinig. Burial was in Paola Cemetery. Memorials have been established in her name to the Church and the Paola Senior Center.
