NOVEMBER 14, 1915 - JULY 18, 1994

Services for Clayton Hartford, 523 15th St. Terrace,Osawatomie, were held Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mr. Hartford, 78, died Monday, July 18, 1994 in Miami County Hospital, Paola.

He was born Nov. 14, 1915 in Parker and his parents were William Walter Keye and Nora Culberson Hartford. In the early 1920's the family moved to Osawatomie where he grew up and was a 1932 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He worked for several Osawatomie merchants before beginning a railroad career in 1941. His railroad retirement came in 1976. He then worked at Brownback's Hardware in Osawatomie and was active in community work.

He and Gladys Dorothy Shelden were married July 9, 1936 in Osawatomie. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children.

His memberships included the First Christian Church, Lions Club, Osage Valley Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M. and Osawatomie Golf Course Men's Club, all of Osawatomie and the National Association of Retired Veteran and Railway Employees and United Transportation Union.

Among those preceding him in death was a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Dorathy, of the home; two sons, James C. Hartford, Dickinson, ND and William Reed Hartford, Stillwater, OK; a daughter, Heide Kessler, Paola; and seven grandchildren.

The Rev. Rex Heavin officiated. Music was provided by Shirley Troutman, organist. and Hazel Wilhoite, vocalist. Masonic services were provided by Osage Valley Lodge No. 24.

Pallbearers were Edwin Cook, Claron Cook, Will Hartford, Jimmy Hartford, Dick Held and Dan Hartford. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name for the children's department at the church.
