JANUARY 1, 1914 - NOVEMBER 8, 1989

A memorial graveside service and inurnment rites for Margaret Bertha Kester, 125 Pacific Ave., Osawatomie, were held Monday in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mrs. Kester, 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1989, in the Topeka Convalescent Center in Topeka.

The daughter of Wallace J. and Ethel Cook Whiteny, she was born Jan 1, 1914, in Colony. She grew up in Osawatomie and attended local schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1931.

She and Patrick Tenpenny were married Oct. 19, 1932, in Blue Mound. They became the parents of two sons. Their marriage later ended in divorce.

On Sept. 27, 1941, she and Carl R. Kester were married in Olathe. They made their homein Osawatomie and became the parents of one son. Mr. Kester died Dec. 18, 1976.

Mrs. Kester served on the board of the Osawatomie Public Library and was president of the board when the new library was built in 1980. She also served on the Kansas State Library Board.

Her memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie and its Presbyterian Women; Osawatomie Chapter No. 26, Order of Eastern Star, wher she had served as worthy matron; Silver Link Lodge; United Transportation Union Women's Auxiliary, and the GFWC Monday Club.

In addition to her husband, among those preceding her in death were two brothers.

Survivors include three sons, Patrick Tenpenny, Osawatomie, Richard Tenpenny, Iola, and Carl Robert Kester, Perry; two brothers, Everett Whitney, Osawatomie, and Wallace Whitney, Cassville, Mo.; three sisters, Ila Diediker, Topeka, Trissie Diediker, Osawatomie, and Rosalie Whitney, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Alan B. Smith conducted the services. Arrangements were cared for by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to the Osawatomie Library.
