MARGARET L. WALTERS

CLASS OF 1931

SEPTEMBER 26, 1913 - MAY 20, 2003

Margaret L. Walters, 89, Overland Park, a native of Osawatomie and retired educator, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Osawatomie, a daughter of William A. and Olive Everett Walters. She was a 1931 graduate of Osawatomie High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from Pittsburg State University. She received a master's degree from the University of Denver.

Miss Walters taught for about 35 years in Prairie and Belinder elementary schools before retiring.

She was a member and past president of Alpha Delta Kappa; a member of the Johnson County Retired Teachers Organization; a life member of the National Education Association; a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a longtime member of Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village.

Those preceding her in death included a sister, Elizabeth Walters, and a brother, Everett A. Walters.

Survivors include a niece, Lynn Pruitt of Overland Park and a nephew, Curt Walters of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the church, 6641 Mission Road, in Prairie Village. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W.Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel.
