EMMITT MULLINS

CLASS OF 1931

Emmitt B. Mullins, 71, of Osawatomie, lifetime resident of Miami County, died Sunday, March 13, 1983, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City. 

He was born July 31, 1911, at Osawatomie, son of the late T.J. and Josephine Tolbert Mullins. He attended the Osawatomie Schools, graduating with the class of 1931. He was married to Ceola Dixon Sept. 10, 1947. Mr. Mullins was a conductor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, working from 1941 until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie the Lane Masonic Lodge No. 339, the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Fort Scott and the Abdallah Temple in Overland Park. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No 26 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 921, both of Osawatomie, the United Transportation Union and the National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees. 

Surviving are his daugther, Miss JoLayne Mullins of Shawnee; his sister, Mrs. Bessie Dudley of Raymore, MO and nieces and nephews. Services were held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Gene Riley and the Rev. Clayton Pittman officiated. Mrs. Peggy Ludwig played “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and
“How Great Thou Art” on the organ. Masonic services were held at the chapel. Serving as pallbearers were Ernest Jones, Mordy Flint, Everett Powner, Frank Toops, R.G. Wilson and Delton Deel. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials were given in his name to the Methodist Church.
