Funeral services for Mrs. S. M. Steele, widely known Osawatomie resident, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Eddy Funeral Home. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mrs. Steele, who retired in the fall after having operated Meek's Drug Store for many years, died Saturday morning at the Miami County Hospital. She had been critically ill about a week.

Born May 1, 1913, she was the second of two children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Levy B. Meek. She spent her entire life in this community.

She was married to S. M. Steele on October 19, 1934. One son, S. M. Steele, Jr. was born to the couple. They also reared the daughter of Mrs. Steele's brother, Franchelle Meek.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, having joined Jan. 13, 1927. Her mother was charter member of the church in 1893.

For many years, Mrs. Steele's father operated a drug store here. Upon his death, she took over the management of the store and operated it until this fall.

Mrs. Steele was a member of the Service Mothers, Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Chamber of Commerce. For many years she served as treasurer of the Osawatomie High School Alumni association.

She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1931.

Survivors include her husband of the home; her son, S. M. Steele, Jr., Lake Wood, Calif.; and a niece, Mrs. M. J. Cliff, Denver, Colo.

The Rev. Clayton Jackson conducted the final rites for Mrs. Steele.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Glenn Ricketts, Mrs. Charles Heckart, and Mrs. John Dollar.

Pallbearers were Doug Hagadorn, Robert Wilson, Raymond Laird, Glenn Ricketts, George A. York, and James C. Powell.
