ROY CUNDIFF

CLASS OF 1931

OCTOBER 19, 1911 - FEBRUARY 11, 1978

Roy Cundiff, Fort Scott, died Saturday evening (2/11/78) in Pittsburg of an apparent heart attack. He was 66. 

A son of H. S. and Lucy Drake Cundiff, he was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Kansas City, Kan. He grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1931 graduate of Osawatomie High School. 

On October 8, 1939, he was married to Inez Miller, in Fort Scott. 

He was a World War II veteran having served as a captain in the United States Army in France and Germany. 

For many years, he was office manager of Merker Machine Shop in Fort Scott. In 1957 he became a rural mail carrier. 

Besides being a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Scott, he was a member of the Rising Sun Lodge No. 8 A.F. and A.M., Fort Scott Scottish Rite Bodies, 33 degree, Wise Master of Fort Scott Chapter of Rose Croix Mirza Shrine, Fort Scott Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was also an assistant coach in charge of the football kickers at Fort Scott Community College. 

Survivors include his wife, Inez, of the home; one son, Barry Cundiff, Long Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Dr. Lloyd C Cundiff, Parkville, Mo., and Clarence Cundiff, Paola.

Services were held Wednesday (2/15) in the Konantz Funeral Home with the Rev. Durward Tenry officiating. Burial was in the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Memorials have been established at the First Christian Church of Fort Scott and the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital.
