CLASS OF 1931
Evelyn Maxine Baumann, 79 longtime resident of Osawatomie, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1993 at the Heritage Manor nursing center in Osawatomie. She was born April 20, 1914, to Fannie Brady and Wade Carson in Osawatomie. She attended the Osawatomie schools, graduating with the Class of 1931. She was married to Jared Shea, and they were the parents of one son, Jerry, who died in 1974. The marriage ended in divorce. At the start of World War II, she moved to Wichita and was employed by Boeing Aircraft. She was married to Alfred Mourning on Sept. 30, 1942, in Wichita, and they became the parents of a son, Jeff. After Mr. Mourning’s death in 1953, she and her son moved back to Osawatomie. She continued her education, becoming a registered medical technologist. She was employed at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She and Lynn Baumann were married Nov. 27, 1959, in Osawatomie. He died Nov. 7, 1992. Mrs. Baumann managed LD Discount until her retirement in 1979. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie. She was an active member and officer of the Osawatomie High School Alumni Association for many years. She liked the alumni, aerobics, playing her organ, following the Kansas City Chiefs’ activities and traveling. But, most of all, she liked to attend her grandson’s athletic activities. Surviving are her son, Jeff Baumann of Ottawa; a brother Kenneth Carson of Fort Meyers, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Osawatomie Cemetery under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie. The Rev. Ted Hunter officiated. Memorials have been established in her name to the Osawatomie High School Alumni Scholarship Fund and can be left at the funeral home. |
