ALBERT GRANT BARBER

Services for Albert Grant Barber, Olathe, were held Saturday, March 7, 1998 in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Mr. Barber, 85, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998 in Olathe Medical Center.

The son of George and Clara Polley Barber, he was born May 11, 1912 in Osawatomie where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1931, he attended Kansas State University.

Upon returning to Osawatomie, he farmed in Miami and Linn counties for the next 35 years. He then worked for the Kansas State Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector until retiring in 1974.

He and Margaret Hastings were married in Osawatomie in 1938. They became the parents of one son. Mrs. Barber died in September 1969.

He and Ruth Price Tawney were married in 1975. She died in May 1988.

On Nov. 4, 1988, he and Mildred Pearson were married in Olathe.

Mr. Barber was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olathe; a 65 year member of Osage Valley Lodge No. 24, A.F.& A.M. in Osawatomie; and the Olathe Medical Center Foundation and Olathe Medical Center Auxiliary. Mr. Barber was an active volunteer at the hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of the home; his son, David Barber, Olathe; two stepsons, Douglas Pearson and John M. Pearson, Kansas City, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Diane Neighbor, Leawood; two grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Kearney officiated. Julie Weaver was the organist. Pallbearers were Michael Fixley, Paul Rudisel, Joe Fenoughty, Clayton Lhuillier, Glen Canon, LaVern Diediker, and William W. Eddy, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Lhuillier, Glenn Ricketts, Bob Wilson, Kenneth Cannon, Kenneth Cunningham, William W. Eddy Sr. and Marion Barnett.

Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his name to the church and Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
