JEFF 'JUNIOR' SHIRLEY

Graveside services for Jeff Reagan Shirley, 68, who died Aug. 14, 1978, at Holiday Manor, Osawatomie, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the Fort Leavenworth Cemetery, Leavenworth. Services were under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie. The youngest child of Jeff and Georgia Graham Shirley, he was born July 19, 1910 at Bogard, Mo. He spent most of his life in Osawatomie. He attended Coffeyville Junior College on a football scholarship, and later went to Ottawa University, where he graduated, receiving a degree in civil engineering. Mr. Shirley worked for several construction companies before World War II. During the war he was technical engineer in Company B., 371st, Engineers Construction Battalion for the Army. He fought in Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He received four bronze stars. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 921 and the Hanlin-Kelley Post No 2258 VFW, both of Osawatomie, and the Lane Lodge No 339 of AF&AM. April 27, 1971, he was married to Ruth Neigs Davis in Columbus. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Eva, who died in 1970, his parents and a sister. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Shirley of the home in Osawatomie, three step children Mrs. Lind Blackwell, San Jose, CA, Capt. Robert C. Davis, Little Rock, AR and William Thomas Davis, El Dorado.
