JOHN PUNSHON

CLASS OF 1930

DECEMBER 2, 1911 - OCTOBER 11, 2001

John Edward Punshon, age 89, of Osawatomie, died Thursday,October 11, 2001 at his home.

He was born December 2, 1911 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He as an only child of John and Martha Elliott (Mills) Punshon. He attended Osawatomie High School graduating in 1930.

John worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a conductor. He retired from the Missouri Pacific in October of 1976 having worked 35 years for the railroad.

He was united in marriage to Helen Francis Lanning on February 2, 1941 at the First United Methodist Church in Osawatomie. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of two children. Helen preceded him in death on May 23, 1991.

He was a member of the Elks Club, the Masonic Lodge of Lane, and the United Transportation Union.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson John Michael, age 29, who died December 18, 1999. He is survived by his son John Steven Punshon and his wife Alva of Osawatomie; his daughter Helen Louise Punshon of Osawatomie; three granddaughters; one great granddaughter; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. The Masonic Service was at 11 a.m.Saturday, October 13, at the Osawatomie Cemetery.
