VIOLETTE BOLEN PENNY

Violette Marie Penny, 87, Osawatomie, died February 20, 2001 at the Table Rock Retirement Center in Kimberling City, MO.

She was born April 11, 1913, in Princeton, the second of five children of Alvin and Olive Bessie Gentry Bolen. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1930.

She and Harold Thompson were married December 19, 1930. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children. They were divorced in 1950.

She moved to Council Grove, KS in 1950 and to Olathe in 1952.

She was married to Samuel Victor Penny on February 2, 1961 in Miami, OK. They lived in Kansas City, KS, until moving to Osawatomie in June 1989. Her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. Penny was an interior decorator and operated Thompson Drapery Shop in Kansas City, MO.

Her memberships included the Plum Creek United Methodist Church of rural Paola and order of the Eastern Star.

Others preceding her in death were two brothers, James Bolen and Louis Bolen.

Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Hunt of Shell Knob, MO, and Susann Goudie of Houston, TX; a son, Charles William Thompson of Houston; two stepdaughters, Lee Penny Baker of Roanoke, VA, and Barbara Penny Darnell of Juneau, AK; two sisters, Doris Elder of Olathe and Georgian Alexander of Council Grove; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home with burial in Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Merle Stone, Jim Pritchard, Joe Bachman, Orlie Davidson, Kenneth Crouch, Merwin Rice and Robert Saunders.

Memorials were to the church.
