KENNETH LELAND YOUNG

CLASS OF 1929

AUGUST 21, 1911 - NOVEMBER 3, 2002

Kenneth Leland Young, 91, an Osawatomie native, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, in Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born Aug. 21, 1911, in Osawatomie, the son of Kenny L. Young and Myrtle Gregg. He grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1929 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He and Eva Jean St. Louis were married Feb. 28, 1948, in Topeka.

Mr. Young was a retired teacher and coach. He received a degree in physical education from Baker University in Baldwin City and a master's degree in education from the University of Colorado. He was named to the Baker University Athletic Hall of Fame in October 1998.

He served as state adjutant of the American Legion for nearly 30 years. He was a member of the Arab Shrine, Moose Lodge, 40&8 of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Jean Young; two sons, Clinton L. Young of Shawnee and Stacy Young of Topeka; a daughter, Marlena Young of Descanso, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 6 in Penwell Gable Midtown Chapel in Topeka. Burial was in Lincoln Garden at Mount Hope Cemetery.
