Agnes Ruskin Barnhill, 89, Lawrence, a former Osawtomie resident, died Friday, April 12, 2002, in her home.

She was born April 15, 1912, in White Lake, S.D., the daughter of the Rev. Edward Vance Ruskin and Leona Knapp Ruskin. She attended grade school in both Leavenworth and Osawatomie and was a 1929 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Kansas in 1941 and was elected to Delta Phi Delta in 1939.

Mrs. Barnhill was assistant registrar at the University of Kansas and worked in the registrar's office from 1944 until retiring in 1977.

She and Ellis Bernal Barnhill were married July 10, 1938, in Paola. He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1989.

Mrs. Barnhill was an active member of the Lawrence Color Camera Club from 1954 until it disbanded in 1989. She served as secretary for many years, then as vice president and president. She was a member of the Photographic Society of America and the North Central Camera Club Council. She was a member of the Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship.

Her hobbies included painting, woodworking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, playing the violin and record keeping. She had illustrated several children's books.

Others preceding her in death included a daughter, May Ruth Barnhill, who died in 1953.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ann Brien of Topeka; her son, Robert E. Barnhill of Lawrence; a brother, Robert E. Ruskin of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Wednesday in Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Lawrence.
