FLORENCE RILEY KING

CLASS OF 1929

JULY 14, 1911 - JANUARY 13, 2004

Florence E. Riley King passed away January 13, 2004 in Federal Way, WA where she had resided since Dec. 2000. She was 92 years old and had suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease for 5 years. She was born near Cottonwood Falls KS on July 14, 1911 and graduated from high school in Osawatomie KS with the Class of 1929.

Florence was the daughter of the late Fred Tomson Riley and Alvina Walle Riley and step- daughter of George A. Dunkin. She worked for Douglas Aircraft in southern CA before meeting and marrying James Ashton King on August 9, 1946. They lived most of their married life in San Francisco CA. James was a retired Ford Motor Company executive for approximately 35 years and predeceased Florence on January 25, 1995.

Mrs. King was a long time, active member of the California Golf and County Club south of San Francisco. She did volunteer work for a San Francisco church and was a life long Presbyterian. In addition to her love of golf, she enjoyed music, fine art and she and Jim traveled extensively. She was known for being a gracious hostess and enjoyed entertaining during her husband’s career with Ford.

Florence will be missed. She is survived by her younger sister, Dorothy Riley Tegler of Spokane WA; devoted niece Susan & husband Bob Petersen, Federal Way, WA, niece, Janice Richter of Port Townsend WA and a nephew Thomas E. Tegler also of Spokane and a number of great nieces and nephews.

At Florence’s request, no service will be held. Burial will take place in a family plot at the Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita KS. She will laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Jim. In lieu of flowers, a gift in Florence’s memory may be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle, 425 Pontius Avenue North, Suite 300, Seattle WA 98109.
