JAMES T. FOWLER

CLASS OF 1929

JANUARY 16, 1912 - APRIL 8, 2000

James Turton Fowler, 88, a retired former Osawatomie physician, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at his home in Plainview, Texas.

Dr. Fowler was a family practitioner in Osawatomie for many years. He was in private practice with his father, Joseph Fowler, both before World War II and after the war. After moving to Texas, he was associated with the Veterans Administration Hospital in El Paso, Texas, for 20 years before retiring. He had lived in Plainview since 1995.

He was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Fontana, the son of Joseph and Sally Trayser Fowler. He attended Fontana schools before graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1929. He completed his education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Dr. Fowler served with the U. S. Army during World War II.

While living in Miami County, he was active with the election board.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and Rotary.

He was an antique collector, woodworker, artist, photographer, rock collector and stone setter. He loved to read and loved animals.

He and Barbara Davey were married April 9, 1976, in Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Fowler, of the home; two daughters, Martha Mundis of Kansas City, Mo., and Margaret Johnson of Plano, Texas; a son, Joseph Fowler of Osawatomie; two sisters, Eleanor Stephens and Maxine Swan, both of Carmel, Calif; and four grandchildren.

Dr. Fowler was cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are being cared for by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home in Plainview.
