FRED Z. ZAKOURA

CLASS OF 1928

JANUARY 5, 1910 - AUGUST 16, 1979

Fred Z. Zakoura, 69, of 618 Fourth St., died Thursday in St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Services for Mr. Zakoura were held on Saturday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home with burial in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mr. Zakoura was born Jan. 5, 1910, in Osawatomie and was the son of Zacharias and Mabel Hazar Zakoura. He spent his entire life here where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1928 from Osawatomie High School.

He married Bessie Kouri Sept. 19, 1935 and they were parents of three children.

For over 40 years, he owned and operated Cut Rate Market. He retired in 1973.

Mr. Zakoura was a member of the Osage Valley Lodge No. 24, AF and AM, where he had served as master. He had also served as district deputy grand master of District 6. He was also a member of Osawatomie Chapter No. 26, Order of Eastern Star.

Among the survivors are his wife, Bessie, of the home; two sons, Mike Zakoura, Kansas City, Mo., and James Zakoura, Lenexa; a daughter, Mrs. JoAnn Gardner, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, George Zakoura and Edward Zakoura, Osawatomie; two sisters, Mrs. Freda Cole, Osawatomie, and Mrs. Georgetta Parente, Norristown, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Dr. Alan B. Smith officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. John Dollar, organist. Active pallbearers were Don Lindsey, Jr., Howard Law, John Slayman, Clifford Stephens, Hershel Ray and Bill Cook. Honorary pallbearers were Don Lindsey, Sr., Ed Bodenhamer, Hugh Phares, Joe Ricci, A. C. Arner and Albert Wallace. Masonic services were held at the graveside.

A memorial has been established in his name with ALS Research, in care of Missouri Valley Chapter, 3947 State Line, Kansas City.
