Elizabeth Walters, 88, Prairie Village, a former Osawatomie resident and teacher, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 3, 1911, at Osawatomie, the daughter of William Augustus and Olive Everett Walters. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1928 and from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor of science degree.

She was a teacher for 47 years, teaching in and around Osawatomie. She taught in Osawatomie until 1951. She then taught third grade at Porter School in Prairie Village until her retirement in 1976. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Association of University Women, the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Delta Kappa honorary teachers society and the Village Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her sister, Margaret Walters of the home; a niece and a nephew.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Osawatomie Cemetery under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the church or Children's Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, Mo.
