JUNE 13, 1908 - SEPTEMBER 14, 2001

Francis Martie Schiefelbusch, 93, Osawatomie, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in Olathe Medical Center.

He was born June 13, 1908, in Graham, Mo., the second of the six children of Edward Francis and Emma Mary Martie Schiefelbusch. The family lived in Graham where the parents taught school and farmed until 1912. At that time, the family moved to Osawatomie.

Mr. Schiefelbusch attended Indianapolis and Osage Valley rural schools and was a 1928 graduate of Osawatomie High School. After completing high school he went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and continued with the railroad until 1954.

After that time he worked for Weaver Water Service and Jim Van Horn at the grain doors in Osawatomie. In 1962 he took a position as an assistant curator of exhibits at the Agricultural Hall of Fame near Bonner Springs. He retired in 1968.

He and Alta Blanche Cartwright were married July 30, 1930 in Osawatomie. They became parents of one daughter. Mrs. Schiefelbusch died Aug. 17, 1990 and he continued to live on the farm south of Osawatomie until moving into Osawatomie in 1993.

Mr. Schiefelbusch was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osawatomie and taught the adult Sunday school class for several years.

His interests included reading, painting in oils, acrylics and water color and pencil sketching. He did quilting and bead and necklace making. He also enjoyed collecting and trading antiques and visiting art museums and was an active volunteer at the Osawatomie History Museum.

Survivors include his daughter , Frances Geraldine Dickey of Olathe; two brothers, Max A Schiefelbusch of Parsons, Kans., and Richard Schiefelbusch of Lawrence; a sister, Roma Cummings of Topeka; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Pallbearers were Joe Lacina, Jon Lacina, Tom Lacina, David Coons, Walter Hays and Ben Maimer. Burial was in Beagle Cemetery.
