MARY NADINE DEMASTUS EDDY

CLASS OF 1928

AUGUST 2, 1910 - DECEMBER 26, 1988

Services for Mary Nadine Eddy, Osawatomie, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mrs. Eddy, a lifelong resident of this community, died Dec. 26, 1988 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. She had been admitted Christmas Day.

Mrs. Eddy, 78, had been ill for some time and had been in and out of hospitals for the past year. She became ill at the home of her son and family in Lawrence.

The Rev. Ted Hunter will conduct the services. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

She was a former partner in the funeral home and served as assistant funeral director. She and her husband operated the business for 44 years before retiring in 1975.

Music will be provided by Mrs. Nell Dollar, Sterling, and Mrs. Diana Wright.

Pallbearers will be Frank Platt, Ernest L. Swenson, Raymond S. Bowers, Webster Hawkins, Ted Lewis and Dr. W. O. Appenfeller.

Mrs. Eddy was born Aug. 2, 1910 to Georgia and James A. Demastus. She attended the local schools and graduated from Osawatomie High in 1928.

A member of the Osawatomie High School Alumni Association, she had not missed an annual reunion of the organization for 60 years.

She was married Nov. 3, 1931 to William W. Eddy, of the home at 126 Rohrer Heights Drive. He survives. The couple has one son, William W. Eddy, Jr., Lawrence.

Other survivors include two grandchildren, Sharon Lynne Eddy of Frisco, Colo., and Stephen Paul Eddy of Lawrence; stepmother, Mrs. Juanita Shipley, Osawatomie; and one half sister, Mrs. Jeannette Terry, Sioux City, Iowa.

She was a lifelong member of the church, a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 26, past honored queen of the Job's Daughters chapter and member of Chapter DO of the PEO sisterhood.

A memorial in his honor has been established with the Shriners hospitals for crippled children.
