Joseph Silver Whiteford, 84, lifelong resident of Osawatomie and retired banker, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1991, at the Miami County Hospital in Paola.

He was born June 10, 1907, in Miami County, the son of Silas and Hattie Lininger Whiteford. He attended Osawatomie High School and graduated with the class of 1927.

He was married to Dorothy Cooper on May 17, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Whiteford was vice president of the First National Bank of Osawatomie for 10 years before retiring in 1972.

He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 921, all of Osawatomie.

He was a Mason and was a member of the Paola Country Club and the Abdallah Shrine. He was a member of the Osawatomie Presbyterian Church.

His wife, Dorothy Whiteford, survives at the home.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Wilson and Son Chapel in Paola. The Rev. Don Parnell and the Rev. Alan Smith officiated. Organ selections were provided by Virginia Karr.

Entombment was in the Forest Hill Cemetery mausoleum. Pallbearers were Kevin Brown, Darrel D. Franklin, Gregg P. Lewis, Ted E. Lewis, Darrell D. Peckman and William K. Rayfield.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children or the church.
