Memorial services for William Francis "Fran" Hill, 128 Pacific Ave., Osawatomie, were held Saturday in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mr. Hill died Thursday in Olathe Community Hospital. He was 79. He was born March 22, 1908, in Lane, the son of Joseph Presley and Julia Ann Sample Hill. He grew up in Osawatomie and attended Osawatomie schools - graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1926.

He began working in 1925 for Missouri Pacific Railroad and was a conductor. He retired in 1972.

He and Helen Mae Giles were married Feb. 2, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. They made their home in Osawatomie.

Mr. Hill was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 921 of Osawatomie and the United Transportation Union.

Among those preceding him in death were three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home.

The Rev. Richard A. Roberts, Jr. officiated at the services. Arrangements were cared for by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in his name to the Osawatomie Public Library.
