OCTOBER 18, 1904 - SEPTEMBER 21, 1980

Charles Virgil Whiteford, 75, of Nevada, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1980, at the Nevada City Hospital. Son of the late Silas and Hattie Lininger Whiteford, he was born south of Osawatomie, Oct. 18, 1904.

After graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1925 he was employed at the First National Bank of Osawatomie until 1928. At that time he became a cashier of the Fontana State Bank at Fontana.

Sept. 22 of the following year he was married to the former Thelma Addy of Fontana. After their marriage they made their home in Osawatomie and Mr. Whiteford returned to work at the First National Bank there.

In 1936 the Whitefords moved to Denver, Colo., where he had an interest in a coal mining operation. After purchasing land in Vernon County, Missouri in 1941, they moved to Nevada, Mo., and resided at 428 W. Arch Street since that time.

In addition to his farming interest, he was a contractor for a number of years with operators doing all types of dozer work in Vernon County and surrounding areas. Mr. Whiteford continued farming until his retirement five years ago.

As a young man he became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Thelma Whiteford, of the home in Nevada, Mo.; two brothers, Joseph Whiteford of Osawatomie and Ivan Whiteford of Barnett, Mo. A niece, Mrs. Elizabeth Whiteford McIntire, of Midland, Mich., also survives.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Ferry Chapel in Nevada, Mo., with the Rev. Gregg Ferree officiating. Graveside services and burial were at 2:30 p.m. at the Whiteford Cemetery near Osawatomie.
