CLASS OF 1925

JANUARY 14, 1906 - OCTOBER 17, 2000

Kittie Corrine Wilson, 94, Osawatomie, died October 17, 2000 in Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

She was born January 14, 1906 on the family farm northwest of Osawatomie, the youngest of five children of John D. and Mary I. Wingert Ackerly. She was 11 when her mother died and her father married a neighbor widow, Eva Gibson, who was a kind and loving stepmother. Her daughter, Freda, came to live with the Ackerlys and the two girls became as sisters.

Mrs. Wilson attended Stockwell School and Osawatomie High School, graduating with the Class of 1925. She attended "normal training" at Ottawa University and Pittsburg and was certified as a school teacher. She taught at Mound Valley School and later at Centennial School.

While teaching at Centennial, she boarded with the Jess Wilson family where she met her future husband, William W. Wilson. They were married February 22, 1930, on the family home northwest of Osawatomie where they lived until 1961. At that time, they purchased and moved to the Joe Whiteford farm just north of Osawatomie.

Mr. Wilson died in 1974 and Mrs. Wilson remained on the farm until moving to Osawatomie Court Apartments in 1996 and later to Life Care Center. She never lived more than 3 miles from where she was born.

She was a lifelong member of the Plum Creek United Methodist Church, staying active in the church until her death. She maintained membership in extension, Farm Bureau and the Monday Study Club in Osawatomie. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed gardening, knitting, tatting, crocheting and quilting and left much of her handiwork to her family and friends.

She was a homemaker, wife and mother and enjoyed her family and friends. She lived life with a cheerful grace and always supported everyone with a compliment or loving smile.

Others preceding her in death were two sisters; two brothers; and her stepsister.

Survivors include her son, David Wilson, of Osawatomie; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were at Eddy-Birchard Funeral with burial in Osawatomie Cemetery.
